Thread is a transgender transformation game that is VERY text heavy and uses an SRPG combat system. It has a strong focus on the story and on gender identity.

Lucas never thought of himself as special, and, frankly, he isn't.
After a brush with the supernatural during his senior year of high school, he and his friends have grown apart. Unbeknownst to him, this incident isn't done turning his life upside down.
Almost two years pass and Lucas has nearly forgotten his encounter with the unknown. But it hasn't forgotten him. A spirit awakens within him, stranding Luc in an unfamiliar body. To return to normal, Luc is tasked with finding a missing high school classmate, and learning how to fight against the dark supernatural elements threatening the small town of Thread Creek.
Also, he has his first day of college on Monday and nothing to wear.

Transformation: The plot revolves around our protagonist dealing with a new body and a new outlook on life.
Identity: Establish the protagonist's gender identity early, and play on to see how Luc's self-conception changes.
Adult Content: This currently consists of text-only scenes. Art for these scenes will be added in a future update. The adult content exists only to explore the game's other themes and is largely optional.

- Writing. A lot of it.
- I think of this as a visual novel/SRPG hybrid. There are around 145,000 words worth of reading in the game as of 0.5.x.
- Characters react to your choices!
- Thread has lots of dialogue variation hinging on the inner gender identity of the MC (Set by player choices in the prologue), social stats, and outfit choice.
- Tactics RPG/SRPG combat.
- Thread uses a combat system similar to fire emblem or final fantasy tactics.
- There are no random battles, experience points or levels. Instead, engage in a few handcrafted battles that tie into the story.
- Free-Roaming!
- Decide what to do with your free time.
- Day of week and time of day system!
- Learn new combat skills for use in battle!
- Spend time with contacts and learn their stories!
- Study Academics, work on your Charm, or build your Courage!
- Study the enemy to gain an edge in combat!
- Brew potions to help with difficult fights!
- Work at the Video Zone to earn money and boost your social stats!
- Buy a new outfit!
- Catch a show at the movie theater!
- Check out the end-of-content room for bonus stories by Icosa Hedron, including a special route with a companion web fic!
- Music and sound effects to compliment both dialogue and combat, and are more than an afterthought.
- Thread has quite a few original tracks composed by Emily Voss.
- A good variety of character expressions created with RPG Maker’s character generator.
- Planned Features:
- More content (fights, story progression, features, and anything else I come up with along the way.)
- More art!
- CGs for important (and adult) scenes.

Hi, loved the game, but I have a couple of suggestions:
1: I have a custom layout keyboard (mostly based off of Dvorak), and it highlighted a slight issue with your control mapping options - namely, it’s rather difficult to map out your own controls when the key you want to use for “down“ is on the other side of the board (the positions of wasd on Dvorak are taken by ,aoe - so mapping your asdf control positions onto my keyboard would be utter chaos on the key re-mapper interface - fortunately, arrow keys worked just fine)
2: It’s a bit silly, but I think it’d be really funny if The Array’s plot had the computers enslaving humans to use their brains for computing power, as that was the originally planned explanation before execs claimed the audiences wouldn’t understand that and it got changed to humans being electrical generators.
…also, I’m 90% sure my actual reaction to the switch would be more along the lines of “Huh, I guess I’m a girl now …it’s going to be annoying having to get used to a new body, isn’t it?”, but I doubt there’s any reasonable way to add that kind of gender apathy as a possible option.
Hi there! Thanks for playing and for taking the time to comment. I'm really glad you liked it.
1. This is good to know. I'm not sure if it's something I'll be able to fix (at least, not without a large amount of effort), but I'll look into it.
2. That's a good trivia tidbit. I might play around with that to add a line or two to the movie.
As for a gender apathy route, I think that would be very difficult for me to write. It would also be a lot of work, and I'm already struggling with timely releases. I'm not against the idea on it's own, but it's out of scope for what I have planned, unfortunately. I really appreciate you giving your perspective, though!
Man i fell in love with this game, I totally identified with Luca's journey being a 100% female, i want moooreeee
Roy i love u
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! More is coming! Including more Roy :)
Love it so far <3 will there be lewd visuals for the text masturbation scenes in future? Also would love a way to further change identity past the prologue!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the game! Visuals for the adult/NSFW scenes ARE planned. No timeline on them yet, though. As for Luc's identity, setting it in the prologue was a purposeful choice on my part, so currently there are no plans to be able to alter it later.
Hi! Really loved this game! Is there any difference between downloadable and in-browser version?
afaik there isn't
also fun (and somewhat cursed) fact: rpgmaker games secretly kinda always are in browser. They essentially launch and run inside of a modified chromium window.
There are no story/content differences between the downloaded Windows version and the web version :)
Nice to see a Transportal reference in this game lol.
Glad you spotted that! Transportal is such a neat game, despite my griping about the weird crease in the mc's shirt.
It's a really impressive project tbh. The dev wears so many hats.
It started clicking with every name that popped up XD
I like Transportal, and really respect the amount of effort its dev puts in.
Me too, still a bit impatient with them nsfw scenes lol. I wanna see what that "handsome" innkeeper looks like in official art.
Only played like an hour or so, but I already love it. I've never actually played any game with this type of combat system before, so it's fun to learn.
also trans rights
Thanks for playing! Trans rights are human rights!
The game is great! I do wish there was a way to keep developing relationships with other people after week 5 ends.
I really need some more games like this that have a bit of NSFW but are mostly story but I can't find any ):
A Mirrors Curse, Coffee Buns, and Mice Tea, you may like
looking forward to this game's development no matter how long it takes ^o^
Thanks for playing and for your patience!
Bro... this slaps in the best way possible, peak content and a great grasp of lore and mechanics, just wished there was more content because its 0.5.9 and I am so god-damn invested in this.
Thanks for playing and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm working hard on the next update, but I admit that it's taking WAY too long. Real life stuff has been a lot recently. Mostly good stuff, but still taking a lot of my time away from development.
Hey, that is perfectly ok, your own health should be the top priority for you, and I (and hopefully everyone) will respect that. Just take your time, and we will wait for what would hopefully be a large update so I can replay it from the start...
P.S, the bonus content for the very start of the game is such a vibe, and I am so excited for if it becomes a canon storyline, again tho, take your time, happy early July!
like the story
Thank you!
This has sofar the most beautiful small game i played in here, as a MtF Trans myself this hit me in some spots and even made me cry in a good way. This is amazing, thank you.<3
Plus its a trans game with yuri??? HELL YES. hih
Thanks for playing! I'm really glad you liked it and that it had a positive effect on you.
I love transformation games. It's a shame there are so few of them, and even fewer good ones, so I'm really looking forward to the release it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Thanks for playing!
I love this game deeply and I really like how cleanly a lot of the themes are integrated into the storylines. The trauma of the change for Lucas/Luca and the confusion that bursts into a sudden realization are incredible. Keep up the amazing work, this is exactly the kind of gender exploration story that warms my little trans heart.
Thanks for playing! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
So, were the plans for NSFW content scrapped?
Nope! I've just been more focused on getting art assets for other parts of the game. There will be more NSFW scenes, and art for them IS coming still.
Loved the game. Can't wait for it to continue!
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it so far. More is coming, but my life has been incredibly busy and release of 0.6.0 has taken much lonnger than I'd like.
Don't overwork yourself, take the time you need. Hope everything goes well for you!
A Zip doesnt work for andriod it needs to be an apk
I'm still experimenting with getting a native APK to work. In the meantime, the android version available is meant for use with JoiPlay or a similar android app for playing RPG maker games.
A zip file wont for for android if it does its a very deep process which ive looked through countless youtube tutoriels to figure out how to get a zip file to work on android and it doesnt by my expreience but if it does it would be alot easier if it was just an apk file
Never thought I could be as envious of the protagonist as I do for A mirror's curse. Kinda wish magic was real, and if it was that it would make itself known to me XD
same lol
The various movie spoofs legit had me in stitches, I am looking forward to the full release.
I'm glad you liked them! They are a lot of fun to write.
I switched to linux and mow the game keeps showing

Can anyone please help me?Are you still having this issue with the current version?
I need to stop finding really good incomplete games. I'm desperate for more already
Thank you for the kind words! I've been hammering away at the next update, but it's taking longer than I'd like.
Question: how do I get this working on my android phone after downloading the files?
The Android download is intended for use with JoiPlay, or another app that runs RPG Maker games on android. https://joiplay.net/
I really love the game and the art style i hope the next update comes soon cant wait to play it again keep up whit the game Love it good job^^
Thank you so much!
Youre welcome^^
hey I'm having trouble trying to get into my job to get money, I dont know if I have to do a specific thing but if anyone can help me than it would be greatly appreciated
Nm I just had to be patent and wait lol
Hi there, glad you figured it out. Hope you're enjoying the game so far!
Yeah the timing of the work shift in the first week is a little tight, you pretty much have to do it as soon as it becomes available or else you're out of luck
Really good writing and story. The attention to detail on the small things is so amazing. This game is an absolute gem. Itch is definitely a diamond in the rough site, and this is definitely one of the diamonds. The only thing that left me wanting is the "lack" of content. I just wish the game was longer, but the amount of work put into the game so far is truly evident. To anyone else that is debating playing the game: do it.
edit: I would like to add that I am not one who particularly likes TG games but this one is good.
Thanks for playing, even though Thread is a TG game. I'm glad you gave it a try and liked it!
a lot to unpack with this one, the dad acceptance was the part that stabbed my heart. wish it was like that when i came out irl but this in a weird way gave me some closure... thanks. i really loved it all you are def going to crack a ton of eggs as if going for a wr.
Thanks for the kind words and for playing! I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles coming out. I wish you the best.
Is there anything missable with the social stats, like a cutscene in the main story with a Charm dialogue option or something like that? I'm wondering how much I need to prioritize them.
You need to get 2 courage to do Eckhart's heart scenes and 3 charm to do heart scene 3 with Kara. There's also an extra relationship point bonus for having Academics 3 in heart scene 3 with Amy.
There's also an extra relationship point with Sara you can get by having at least charm 2 in heart scene 3, but like if you're already going for charm for Kara, you will already meet this requirement.
It's pretty easy to level your stats by just doing every work shift and watching every movie in the movie theater, and like occasionally going to the library for academics on the weekends.
So those extra relationship points are definitely missable, but if I don't have the 2 Courage or 3 Charm to unlock the heart scenes in the moment, will I get another chance later?
Yup! You can unlock them later, once you get your stats up, if you miss the first chance.
I am 99% sure that the campfire scene where Luc realizes who she really is on the inside shattered my egg beyond repair. 10/10 game. Tears following my egg shattering was certainly not 10/10 though but meh what can I expect playing games that resonate with my struggles with identity ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I wish you the best of luck figuring things out. It's not easy, for sure. Thanks for playing!
10/10 was genuinely disappointed wen i reached the end of what is available, cant wait for more
Thanks for playing! I'm actively working on the next update :3
Hi, i'm about 21h40 in the waiting room. That's a serious game, looks like a professional one. There's so much things : dates, fights, lessons, humor, story... and most elaborated thoughts about genre's struggles. Thanks fot that unic smooth experience.
Hi there! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game and commented to say as much. Thanks for playing! More is on the way :3
W game
dev is pretty chill too
Thanks! You're pretty chill, yourself :3
i havent played through the entire game yet, but i am so in love with the story! i brought me an extreme sense of acceptance and happiness to see the acceptance from lenny. my heart has been taken by storm by this story, and i really really cant wait to see more from this amazing game! keep it up!
Awwww! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you are enjoying the game! :3
I wanna see what's next ^^
Just found out about this game like a day and a half ago, played through all of the content and all I can say is wow. This is an incredibly compelling and fun game to play. I'm a huge Fire emblem fan and the combat encounters in this game really scratch that same itch. Luc's story is really fun to watch unfold and there are many similarities between Luc's and my own transition journey(unfortunately not the magical transformation aspect). The main game loop is also a very engaging mechanic, there is just enough to feel like you are constantly making progress but not too much that there are too many options and you feel unsure of how best to spend your time. I did wish that the skills said how far they had to go to level up in the menu. Solid game play, good trans themes, 8/10, can't wait for more.
P.S. The art in this game is also incredible, from the pixel art to the illustrations of the characters, all of the characters are so cute and fun.
Thanks for playing and thank you for the kind words :3 I'm very happy you enjoyed the game!
SPOILER WARNING!
this is such a cozy game. was so sad when I hit the waiting room. when it felt like the game was about to enter it's climax. Spending time with people and learning about them even with the heavy themes was just mind numbingly pleasing. and the adult content isn't as great as other games. but honesty the game shines despite that. there is a few times where it feels like the game is preaching. Anytime the word "bigot" was used made me cringe. but that's it as far as negatives go. the set pieces are beautifully done. the characters you interact with are amazing. I could listen to these conversations for hours. I never felt like the game was wasting my time in any fight. when Luke was crying in the back because he didn't wanna change back that almost broke my heart. the sad looks on the character sprites do the game justice. I find myself looking forward to talking to all the characters and getting those hearts up. and balancing skill progression with character progression was done so well. you don't get a lot of different skills to use or play around with in combat but with the movement and environment; despite not a lot of complexity it's still verry fun. I can tell the dev or devs who worked on this game put a lot of care and attention into the systems they work on. for example unlocking codex's on monsters and researching them makes them easier to deal with! I get they probably don't have a lot of time to fully expand some systems further but what they do add is never half baked. and this proves you don't need a lot of complexity to have fun! and when it comes to story I'm impressed they got so much out of the premise. these devs or dev deserve a nice warm coffee for such a game well made. tit for tat. warmth for warmth. please support them.
PS. the campfire talk and the ride back from the campsite did make me cry. and it's the devs fault.
TLDR
this game is amazing, you should definitely consider giving it a try. Amazing art. cute characters. Heavy story. fun mechanics.
Thank you so much for playing and for the kind words! I'm very happy that you enjoyed the game.
Now I'm not usually one bold enough to talk about adding things. But How hard would it be to make your name slowly shift in gradient from mostly blue to mostly pink? Slowly over the course of the game? I saw the gradient in the game on his name and was thinking. That would be such an amazing detail. I mean I even thought it was going to happen. But then again maybe that only happens if you start out with feminity maxed out. From the set up questions. I don't know I'm not the creator of the game. But I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Maybe it shifts to match your bar throughout the game? Probably just a dumb idea from me but I think it's cool
I don't think it's a dumb idea! I think it would be neat. Unfortunately, it would be pretty difficult to implement because of some of the other systems Thread has going on. I also just have a color theme in my head for all of the characters, and Luc is blue, for better or worse. I admit it maybe was a bad idea to choose a gendered color for Luc, but here we are.
MILD SPOILER AHEAD:
If you get to a certain heart/contact level with Sarah, you unlock nail painting. The color you choose to pain Luc's nails with adds a gradient to Luc's name, using Luc's signature blue and whatever nail color you choose. In the future, you will be able to buy multiple colors of nail polish and swap between them.
I love the game so much, i have played the first two chapters and i love the story so much! So many moments make me cry and laugh and i'm so excited to play even more, i hope eventually i get to play chapter 3 either when i have the chance to download it or if the web version ever gets it, but until then i'm super happy with what i've seen.
Thank you for the kind words and for playing!
The web version has all of the currently available content. Which is chapters 0, 1 and part of chapter 2. I'm still writing the next part of chapter 2, and when it's released it will be available as a download for Patrons first. However, I currently plan to eventually make all content available in the web version. So, don't worry, you aren't missing anything :3
Glad to know, super excited for when it comes out, the game really is incredible, and i am so excited for the next chapter because you can actually feel the emotions of every character, from Lucas to Amy you feel their struggles and it makes it feel so real
I really like what I'm seeing from the game so far. I really like the art and characters so far. Hopefully we'll be able to get new outfits down the line.
The only negative so far is that there seems to be no way to have a platonic relationship with Roy. He seems like a cool dude but romantic feelings towards guys isn't something I'm into so I have to skip his content for now.
Hi there! Additional outfits are definitely something I'm looking to add in the future! As for Roy, there will be a point in a future version where you, as the player, can choose NOT to pursue him romantically and remain platonic. However, as for what's in the game now, well, Luc is canonically bi and has a bit of a thing for Roy, and it shows. But whether or not that becomes anything more than friends is up to the player.
Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you are enjoying it so far!
Nice to hear about new outfits coming in the future. I did the shopping trip for the first outfit 4+ times. I was expecting to either go for the casual or sporty styles since they match my personal style and I was honestly surprised to realize that the dress was my favorite. Luc being taught how to ride in one was also funny which sealed it.
I'm guessing we'll be able to also get new spells as well. Do you have an idea of how large the team will be?
Will there be more to the stats in the future? I know courage can shape if Luc comes out as trans and charm is supposed to make you more sociable. What will academics do? Will Luc need to balance school life/grades with guardian duties or will it shorten the time to research monsters and learn new spells?
Nice to hear that there will be a platonic route for him in the future. I thought we'd be able to also shape Luc's attractions since we can also shape if the they are trans and other social stats. Like I thought the Roy route would start and the player could decide if Luc's attracted to him/guys romantically or if guys are seen as just friends for example. Guess I'll just have to avoid him for now tho since it seems that's the where Luc explicitly says she's into guys and I'd like to avoid that bit. That's just a personal thing. I've enjoyed everything about your game so far besides being attracted to guys and i really look forward to what the future has in store.
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been quite sick.
To address your questions: I do know how large the team will be, but I'm keeping that under-wraps until it's time. I don't currently plan to add more stats. The social stats are generally used to gate dialogue options and story paths. However, having a high academics giving you a boost to research is an interesting idea. I'll play around with it!
No problem. I hope you feel better.
Yeah it seems that when I studied a few times the game talked about how Luc found the subject tough but studying helped. This has me thinking that we'd have to balance social/guardian duties with keeping our grades up in school.
Since researching monsters and learning new magic takes multiple time slots I was thinking that higher academics could reduce the number of time slots needed to learn them. Like investing in academics early will make learning these skills much easier later on.
the ID3 campfire scenes made me genuinely tear up
Awww. High praise. Thank you! And thank you for playing!
Baller game, and i totally didn't just reset my password so that i can just make this specific review and probably will abandon this account again for like at least a year
Love the story! How do you get the Procrastinator achievement?
Hi there! So glad you are enjoying the game. As for the achievement, don't do the beginning quest to clear the riverside of shades for a long time :3.
